B.C. Moving to Permanent Daylight Saving Time
The Province of British Columbia has announced plans to move to permanent daylight saving time, meaning residents will no longer need to change their clocks twice a year.
Beginning with the spring time change in March 2026, clocks will move forward as usual, but when fall arrives, they will not be turned back. From that point on, the province will remain on daylight saving time year-round.
The change follows strong public support across B.C. In a provincial consultation that received more than 220,000 responses, approximately 93% of participants supported eliminating seasonal clock changes.
While the shift may require some adjustments initially—particularly for organizations that regularly work with partners in other provinces or countries—the long-term goal is to create a simpler and more predictable time system.
For communities like Sicamous and the broader Shuswap Region, the shift simply means one consistent time throughout the year. Many businesses and organizations welcome the change, as it removes the disruptions that can come with adjusting schedules twice annually.
Permanent daylight saving time is also expected to bring more evening daylight during winter months, something that can benefit local tourism, recreation, and community activities.
