Your four-season playground

While Sicamous does have two spectacular lakes on our doorstep, we have so much more to offer visitors in the way of remarkable experiences. This page outlines those options, from on the water to on the mountain and everything in between, including sledding, hiking, golf, yoga and hockey. We encourage people to explore the community and discover its many hidden gems.

Houseboating

The Houseboat Capital of Canada, Sicamous has three different companies that will help you plan an epic vacation exploring Mara and Shuswap Lakes. Bluewater, Twin Anchors and Waterway Houseboats all have numerous options of boat sizes, amenities, water toys and whatever else you need to make the most of life on the lake.
All three companies ensure that designated captains have the necessary training to operate the boat safely, while a parks pass is included in the rental to allow for beaching at the many, beautiful provincial parks that dot the shoreline.
From small family getaways to full scale celebrations, life’s a beach in Sicamous.

Water Activities

Sitting on the shores of two beautiful lakes—Mara and Shuswap—life happens on the water in a Sicamous summer. No matter your speed, there’s something for everyone; kick it up and ride the wake, slow things down and paddle at leisure or just soak up the sun. A number of public boat launches and docks provide easy access to the water, as do the many marinas that offer boat slips or storage with valet service. This wet and wild playground isn’t limited to boat owners, however, with many businesses in town offering rentals of different sized boats, personal watercraft, kayaks and paddle boards.
If you prefer terra firma, the Beach Park is the place to be with a beautiful sandy beach, large grass area with picnic tables and a splash park and playground for kids. Mara Lake Provincial Park is another option just a few minutes south on Highway 97A, also featuring a great beach and boat launch.
In Sicamous we understand that pets are a part of the family too and therefore cater to our furry friends with a dog park that backs along the Eagle River, giving them a beach vacation as well.
No matter your preference, come hit the water and discover that life is better at the lake.

Sledding

Voted 2017 SledTown ShowDown Champion of Western Canada, Sicamous has four areas for riders of all abilities—Owlhead, Queest, Blue Lake and Eagle Pass—with both groomed and ungroomed trails to explore. Avid sledders can find snow on the mountains starting as early as the fall and lasting all the way to late spring, making for a good, long season.
While sleds have always hit the hills here, more and more riders are now choosing snow bikes. Whichever machine you prefer, Sicamous is the place to sled!

Hiking

Sitting in a valley, the Sicamous area has an extensive system of 26 trails that offer breathtaking views and can be explored by hiking, biking, skiing or snowshoeing. The varied landscape caters to all levels of experience and physical agility, with differing length treks, allowing hikers to personalize their off-road adventure and tailor it to their needs.
A full list of trails, maps and directions can be found at www.shuswaptrails.com or in the guide below.

Golf

Golfers can take advantage of the Shuswap sun by hitting the greens at either of Sicamous’ courses, or they can go a bit further afield and access numerous others in the area. In town, there is the option of a nice stroll on the nine-hole course with greens along the Eagle River, or the 18-hole course whose more mountainous terrain requires a cart and provides spectacular views of Mara Lake. Celebrate the highlights—and forget the lows—of a good game at either of their clubhouses, both of which have patios so you can continue to soak up the sun.

Yoga

While Sicamous is known for a lot of high octane fun, we also know how to unwind and have two yoga studios in town to help you do just that, both indoors and outdoors. The yogis cater to all levels of ability, including—for the more adventurous water babies—yoga on stand up paddle boards. The one studio is located right downtown, close to the beach for those classes, while the other is all outside and holds sessions at different beaches and parks in the area.
Come get centred in Sicamous.

Hockey

Having produced numerous NHL players, Sicamous is very much a hockey town and is therefore very invested in the local team.
The Sicamous Eagles Junior ‘B’ Hockey Club was officially formed on May 17, 1994. The Club is a registered Society with a mandate to provide opportunities for young men to develop their hockey and life skills with a goal of enjoying a career in the hockey field. We hold a junior ‘B’ franchise and operate a team in Sicamous.
The Eagles are one of 20 teams in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League (KIJHL), one of the largest and strongest junior hockey leagues in BC. We are an active participant in this organization and receive excellent support and assistance with operating a junior team within the guidelines of BC’s hockey development program.
The Eagles have enjoyed a close affiliation with many teams in both the BC Hockey Association and the Western Hockey League, working closely with team officials in directing players to the opportunities available to them via our organizations. Many Eagles graduates have moved up to play on Junior ‘A’, WHL teams, and European teams, and many graduates – including Kris Beech, Shea Weber, Cody Franson, Derek Engelland, Adrian Veideman, Kris Hogg, Andrew Ebbett and Andrew Kozek –have played or are currently playing in the NHL. Still others have moved up to play college hockey, on full or partial scholarships.
In its 22-year history, the Eagles have failed only once – in their 2015-16 season – to make the playoffs and twice were provincial champions, which qualified them to attend the Western Canada Championships (for junior ‘B’ teams, the equivalent of the Stanley Cup.) The first time, they finished fourth at the Westerns, and the second time, they won it all. The Sicamous Eagles have also hosted the Western Canada Championships, a major undertaking which took a year to plan, prepare, organize and implement.
The Eagles have a 52-game regular season schedule, and the delivery of home games is an excitement for our fans and for our community. Game nights are well orchestrated, and fans unable to attend in person can still enjoy the game and follow the team’s success via our live internet pay-per-view broadcasts. We enjoy a successful relationship with our minor hockey association, as well as many other clubs and groups in our community.
See their roster and full schedule at www.sicamouseagles.com or www.kijhl.ca.
